Stafford County’s Planning Commission unanimously recommended proposed Comprehensive Plan language addressing high-voltage transmission lines, including the North Anna–Bristers proposal.
The recommendations expressed county preferences about routing, underground placement, impacts near homes and schools, and assigning certain costs to the customers driving the need for new infrastructure. The commission’s vote was advisory; Board of Supervisors action would be required to amend the plan.
Even adopted county guidance would not itself approve, deny or select a transmission route. The State Corporation Commission has final siting authority, though Virginia law requires the SCC to consider relevant local Comprehensive Plan provisions when applicable.
